Wildlife Sightings

One iof Ord's golden eagles in March 2009

Ord and the surrounding areas are blessed with a huge abundance of wildlife,  on the ground, in the sea and in the air. Otters are often seen in the waters off the village, and sea-eagles can  occasionally be seen soaring above.  Golden eagles are regular visitors to Ord and the nearby hills and crags. Residents and visitors are invited to record their sightings on the village notice board which, during 2008 and early 2009,  saw regular sightings of otters, seals, eagles and buzzards. The gannets are a great sight, diving into Loch Eishort at over 60mph!

There are also a number of  locally based websites and organisations that keep records of  recent sightings and we hope that  these might also be of use.

We know that many of our guests enjoy the outdoors and again for 2009 the Highland Council Rangers have programmed a series of guided walks and events in Skye and Lochalsh. These vary from a gentle forest stroll or night survey of bats and beasties to a full-on scramble up on one of Skye's mighty peaks. These are great days out and we have shown the link below for the full programme for early 2010. Please get in touch if you need further information.
