The Hirsel is in the centre of the small village of Ord, 4 miles down a single track from the main road (A851) that links Broadford with Armadale, from where CalMac Ferries operates its service to Mallaig.

If you are driving from the south the scenic ferry crossing takes just 30 minutes and saves around 60 miles. As an alternative the Skye Bridge is 20 miles from the cottage and takes around 30 minutes.

Arriving in the village turn right before the beach and we are just 150m on the right. Skye is a bigger island than you think, it’s more than 70 miles from the south to the north. Public transport is very limited, especially in the winter, so a car is necessary if you want to explore the island and surrounding areas. We encourage our guests to get out of their cars and enjoy the magnificent outdoors.

Planning a holiday in Skye is just as much fun as the holiday itself. Although there are many websites and brochures to help you decide, our friends at the West Highland Free Press have made their magazine 'The Visitor'  available online for you to download here. Paper copies are in shops, cafes and many outlets across the area.
